Square peg in a round hole? Not exactly!!!

No, I didn't make a square peg fit in a round hole. But I did take a
UFO, "Tumbling Blocks" and make it into a square tablecloth for my round table.
I dug this out of a drawer the other day and threw it up on the dining room table.
It was a UFO I started maybe 8 or 9 years ago. It was to be a charm quilt all hand pieced, I musta been temporarily out of my mind.
I went through a period of hand piecing, after I met Jinny Beyer at The Columbia River Quilt Show, in Stevenson Wa. It was either 2000 or 2001, she just happened to be staying at the Skamania Lodge when she heard about our quilt show. She just dropped in, we were flabbergasted and very pleased, what a treat.
I did complete one large quilt, totally hand pieced, and hand quilted, during that time.
There was a time when I thought it important to be in the same room with my now ex-husband when he was home. So I hand pieced while he watched football or golf. Hence one completed quilt, I will post it another day.

Back to the UFO topic, I walked by the quilt for several days trying to decide how to finish it, it was only about half completed. Did I want to finish it, not really, besides I got to liking the way it looked on the table. So this morning I had a brain storm to turn it into a tablecloth.

So I squared it up, at the widest point, dug through my stash found a backing I bought years ago to make place mats. I placed right sides together stitched around it, turned it, top stitched the edge, I now have a reversible tablecloth.
I completed a unfinished project and used some of my stash. .

Happy Quilting!

  1. What a GREAT idea!!!! It looks wonderful on your table too. I have put some of my hand quilted quilts on my table for tablecloths and I panic when anyone eats on it. All that work ya know... but this would be a great solution!!! I could see piecing tops just for this purpose. Great...now I am planning another one in my head!

  8. That's my mom. Always another brainstorm waiting to happen!

Looks nice, Mom. Wish I was sitting there with you enjoying a bowl of Grandma's peach cobbler.

Heck, since I'm wishing, wish Grandma was there with us, too.
